In this chapter, Jacob is moving to Egypt. However, unlike Abraham and Isaac before him, Jacob is going to Egypt(a type of the world) in the will of God(Genesis 46:3). This move for Jacob was part of God's sovereign plan. This move was necessary for three reasons:
1. Prophecy - God predicted that Abraham's descendants would be in bondage and then be released - Genesis 15:13,14
2. Protection - There was a great famine in the land and this preserved the "seed" of Messiah
3. Power - God brought them into the most powerful nation on earth to show that He was more powerful than any nation or false god.
In John 17, Jesus prayed for us that we would be sustained being in the world but not of the world. The place of God's protection, provision, power and blessing is in the center of His will! Even if we are in "Egypt" we can rest assured that God will take care of us just like he took care of Jacob and his family.
Are you in the will of God for your life?
Walk in the will of God and rest in the protection, provision, and power of God!!!
