I see two things in these passages. The first is that men do not always make good choices. When a bad choice is made others involved may suffer for the choice. This happened when Abraham left the land in a famine to go to Egypt. His nephew Lot was affected by this choice and he because of Abraham's bad influence made a bad choice too. We must weigh carefully our choices because we do affect others. Naomi made a choice too, to send these two daughter in laws back to their relatives. Orpah was affected by this choice and went back to her people. Ruth by her choice became an ancestor to our Lord Jesus Christ.
We must not discount the foreknowledge and the will and ways of God. He knows the end from the beginning and His way is perfect. We must try to look ahead to the possible choices we make. Will it matter for now only or eternally the special choices we make. If only for now we are short sighted and cannot see a long way off.
