The Lord had Joshua command the priests to come up out of the Jordan River and as soon as they stepped foot on the banks of the east side, the waters began to flow again. The Lord also reminded the Israelites that the 12 stones set up on the east side of the Jordan were to be a reminder for their children of the work that the Lord had done for them both at the Red Sea and at the Jordan River "that ye might fear the Lord your God forever." This fear is a good fear that causes obedience and a knowledge of what is to come. The kings in the area had a fear as was evidenced by their reaction to the accounts of what God had done. The writing was on the wall for them. They knew they didn't stand a chance against the Lord and His people.
I am sure if you tried hard enough you could think of a time in your life where you could set up your stones of remembrance for something God has done for you. If nothing comes to mind, remember that Christ was set up as a public example Himself as He bled and died for us all. Do you have a fear of the Lord that constrains you to serve Him? Do you have a thankfulness for what He has done that constrains you to labor for Him? All believers should.
Remember today why you serve the risen Savior!
