Have you ever thought that the first record of Jonah praying was in the belly of the fish? There was the sailors asking him to get up and pray. Then there was the storm that was the worst these sailors had ever been in. When we are not good with God the communication breaks down. The break comes when Jonah says that he would look again to God's holy temple. Jonah was doing something. This is what Jonah knew about Solomon's prayer after building the temple in I Kings 8:30. Why did Jonah say that? Where was the temple from the belly of the fish? It was a promise of Solomon Jonah was counting on. T
The next is talk about his hopeless condition. In verse 6 already he is assured of God's deliverance. In verse 7 there seems to be a spiritual victory. Finally, Jonah comes face to face with the fact that he had broken a vow he made to God. That is why he was where he was. The final thought of Jonah is that salvation was of Jehovah God. He was not yet out of the fish when he said that, but the answer came soon after. Notice God spoke to the fish. Creation obeys Him. Now it is up to human kind to obey Him, too.
