Psalm 119:129-136

Here the palmist begins with the fact that the Lord's testimonies are wonderful. There is nothing in this world to compare to the word of God. Light is given to the soul when God's word is taken in and by the word of God understanding is given. It is almost to this man a comparison of a cold drink to a thirsty soul. The next verse is one that is not particularly about the word. It is about loving God's name. We need to walk close, almost step by step, mingling our hearts with the heart of God. The word can order our steps if we allow it. Then iniquity will not have dominion (power or contol) over us. The psalmist wants to be delivered from the oppression of man so he can keep the precepts of God. He wants God to teach him His statutes. In the New Testament we have the indwelling and inworking Holy Spirit as our divine teacher. In the last verse of this section, how do we feel when fellow humans do not want to keep God's word? Do we feel like weeping or is it passed by without a thought? This is an excellent barometer of our condiiton of the soul.
