There verses are Paul's declaration about faith apart from works. He speaks about Abraham, the true father of all who are faithful. Abraham believed God and it was counted for righteousness.
If we think we need to work for salvation we owe a debt that cannot be paid if it were for a lifetime of work. We have a direct quote from David, the psalmist (Psalm 32), "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered." This means that our sin is not put on our own books if we belong to Christ.
Abraham is the spiritual father of all who have faith in Christ whether Jew or Gentile. According to this, I am considering Abraham my father too. Though half German, and half other nationalities, it was the greater Son of Abraham and David; Jesus Christ who set me free. As they say in the program Unshackled, "If the Son shall set you free, you shall be free indeed!"
