Zechariah 1:7-17

We call the prophet Zechariah a post captivity prophet. There are three beginning with Haggai which was about the time when the work had stopped in building the temple. It was through the prophetic words of these two men that the work on the temple continued with opposition from the Jews enemies. This first paragraph is only to explain the time and has nothing to do with the verses we are now considering. We can read about this in the book of Ezra in the Bible. In these verses we find Zechariah being given a word from God about the future of Jerusalem. Despite what we see in the world, today Gods' eye is always on Jerusalem. No matter what we might think God loves Jerusalem and there is a glorious future for that city in years to come when Christ rules. Notice God's anger is with the nations because of their attitude against Jerusalem. He will return with mercy and His house will again be built. Also, the cities will again be built where only ruin existed before. The people will be comforted where there was once devastation. My attitude about the city of Jerusalem and all of God's ancient people means a lot to God. If they are beloved to Him they also must be loved by me too.
