2 Samuel 9:1-13

This is a beautiful story of David showing kindness to Mephibosheth who because he was from the household of Saul could have been considered an enemy. It is also a story of one who through a handicapped person was counted a person and real worth to David. It all began when David and Jonathan made a covenant that their friendship. That friendship would always be strong despite the fact that Jonathan never forsook Saul his father, even though Saul became a bitter enemy of David. Jonathan saved David's life at least once. Now it was time to repay the kindness so David gave Mephibosheth a place at his table and he became a part of the kings inner circle. That is a picture of what we call grace. Now let us look ahead at the wonderful grace shown to us by God. We were aliens and had no part of the promises of God because they all belonged to Israel. The same kind of kindness is shown to us and because of Christ we can now belong to the household of God.
