Jesus used this parable to deal with the pride of the Pharisees. They resented that Jesus was popular with sinners and refused to rejoice that sinners were repenting. They also refused to see that they were sinners and needed to repent.
1. The prodigal's bent - "give me"
2. The prodigal's brokenness - "came to himself"
3. The prodigal's blessing - "make me"
All of us go the way of the prodigal. We all need to repent and receive the forgiveness of God. Do not get the older brother syndrome of pride. He forgot that all that he had was a gift from the father. He forgot that he needed forgiveness as well. He failed to rejoice in others repentance.
Walk with the Lord and avoid the older brother syndrome!!!
