Psalm 54 was written when David was in trouble. David was hiding from Saul, who was trying to kill him, and had just been betrayed by someone who told Saul where he was hiding.
1. The Plea of Prayer - David's response was not to fortify himself, or find another person to plan or scheme a way of escape. David did not try to get revenge on the one who had betrayed him or even grow bitter toward Saul. David simply but passionately cried out for help from God with his trouble.
2. The Power of Prayer - 1 Samuel 23:27-29 says that just as Saul's men were closing in on David, a messenger arrived to warn Saul that the Philistines had invaded Israel, forcing Saul to leave in order to deal with his new problem. God moved the hearts of others, who were unaware of the situation, in perfect timing to meet David's need.
3. The Praise of Prayer - Death - David made a "sacrifice" of praise. What was placed on the
altar? Self was sacrificed to say my deliverance was all of
God and not my own power or ability.
Delight - Part of David's praise was to delight in the glory of God's
name
Deliverance - David rehearsed verbally what God had done to rescue
him.
What trouble are you in today? How wonderful to know that our heavenly Father hears and answers prayer with just the right timing to help us and then delights to hear our praise!
Walk with the Lord and pray in trouble!!!
