In the end of Chapter 11, we read about the greatness of God. A greatness that is too great to comprehend. Now in Chapter 12 we are admonished to respond to this reality by giving up our lives (bodies) as living sacrifices to God. Putting away all of our own desires in order to do the will of God. Giving up everything is reasonable (vs. 1). We are also instructed not to act like the world, but instead to do things differently. And to be transformed (continually) to prove, or to show forth, God's perfect will. This means we are always to understand that there is room to grow. We have never arrived and there are always flaws and imperfections that we need to remember and stay humble. We should never walk into a church service and be prepared to "enjoy" a sermon. We should be listening for God's Word and with meekness allow the Holy Spirit to convict us, making us more like Christ. (Walking forward to the altar at the end of a service does not mean you are unspiritual. It means that you are, willing to admit you have room for improvement.)
This realization of the need for humility directly translates into a proper order in the church. Verse 4 says, "For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office." God has given every born-again believer specific gifts to be used in the body. No one should be upset with another for what they do or don't have. Every person should, with meekness and humility, give their lives to practicing the gifts that God has given them.
God loves you and he made you for a special purpose! Fulfill that perfect will of God for your life!
