John 1:15-28

How can I not be tempted to write a book about these few verses? This section is one of the finest in the Bible only none can stand alone. John never spoke about Himself. Here he points everyone to Christ the Man and the Eternal One who was before John the Baptist even though as a man he was six months older. In the next words of John the writer, he speaks of having received of His fullness and grace and truth which to me are not comprehendable. Christ who in other places is said to be the Image of the Eternal God. He has declared or possibly explained perfectly who God really is. After all this John the Baptist is asked who he is. All he could say is, "I am not the Christ but just a voice crying in the wilderness.", a prophetic statement of Isaiah the prophet 800 years earlier. It is plain to see how John remained in the background and pointed plainly to the superiority of Christ. Now what is that to you and I? It is for us to worship and magnify Him above everyone and everything that ever existed in this world. He is everything to me.
