Paul instructs Timothy in three areas of elder etiquette.
1. Compensating Elders - Elders who rule well by leading and teaching should be paid and cared for generously
2. Disciplining Elders - Three instructions or cautions
1.) Get accurate information - two or three confirming witnesses
2.) Do everything openly and above board
3.) Obey God's Word - no prejudice or partiality
3. Selecting Elders - Choose spiritual leaders who have a proven record of godliness and no known sin or disqualification.
Apparently Timothy either had difficulty because of stress over this process of dealing with elders or because of his own personal habits with his stomach. Paul instructed him to use "wine"(medicinal, non alcoholic grape juice) as a help.
Walk with the Lord and be an "elder encourager"!!!
