A Good Shepherd! - Numbers 27:12-23

In this passage Joshua is chosen as the new "under shepherd" for the children of Israel. God has always seen His people as sheep needing a shepherd. In one sense certain people are chosen for the leadership role of a shepherd and in another sense all of us have a responsibility to "shepherd" others as we make disciples for God's glory. As Joshua is selected as the new leader, we see several characteristics of a good shepherd.

1. Chosen by God - A good shepherd must be called by God and enabled by God for the task.
2. Controlled by the Spirit - A good shepherd must be controlled by or yielded to the Spirit of God. The shepherd should demonstrate that he is spiritually oriented not fleshly.
3. Charged by the priest - A good shepherd is recognized by other men of God as having the above two qualities and challenged with the accountability to care for God's people.

Role of the Shepherd:
1. Lead
2. Feed
3. Weed
4. Intercede
5. Bleed

Praise God for the "Good Shepherd" the Lord Jesus Christ who cares for me! Follow His example in caring for others!

Walk with the Lord and be a good shepherd!
