Luke 1:13-25

In these verses Zacharias finds out from the angel Gabriel that he and Elisabeth were going to be blessed with a son who we know as John the Baptist. He was to be a special child called a Nazarite. His sole purpose in life was to cause people to repent and turn to God and to introduce the world to the Son of God who we know as Jesus Christ. I don't know whether I blame Zacharias for questioning this for they were very old, far past childbearing age. However, to question God was to cost him the loss of his voice while the child was in the womb. Some people pay a greater price to question God. I don't want to pay that kind of price. One of the things about John was that he would be filled with the Spirit of God from birth. He was to have the Spirit and power that Elijah had turning people to God. Now you may be asking, "What does all this have to do with me in my life today in 2010? Really everything if you are a person of faith in the living God. The birth of John the Baptist was predicted in at least 2 places in the Old Testament. One over 800 years and the other over 400 years. That means nothing is impossible with God. Does God have control in your life?
