Romans 7:4-25
In the verses we are considering today Paul is bringing out the conflict of the two natures of a person who believes in Jesus. We call those two natures flesh and spirit. The spiritual part of us is energized by the Holy Spirit. The other part (the flesh) can be tempted to sin. Someone said once it is like two dogs fighting each other. Which one wins? The one I feed. Until we find Christ and accept Him we have only the sin nature. There is no turmoil, but we only want to satisfy ourselves and our old sinful nature. Then Christ comes in and we are born again. The Holy Spirit comes to live within us. Then the war starts. Part (the flesh) wants to satisfy our former sinful way. The other part which Paul calls the mind wants to go the way of God. No wonder Paul says, " O wretched man that I am." The only victory is to surrender to the ways of God in Christ.
