The enemies of Jesus sought to discredit Him by asking "trick" questions.
1. Question of Authority 11:27-12:12
2. Question of Responsibility 12:13-17
3. Question of Eternity 12:18-27
4. Question of Priority 12:28-34
Set Up - Pay Taxes? Marriage/Resurrection?
Supposition - Undermine Jesus' authority and hold on to their own authority
Surprise - Whose inscription? and Do you not err?, Have you not read?
Set back - Pay your taxes but also pay your debt to God
God is the God of the living
Pay my dues as a good citizen. Pay my dues as a good Christian. I owe God: love, respect, honor, praise, thanks, obedience, service, sacrifice, suffering...etc.
God is not interested in the hypothetical future but in the present reality - Don't sell God short, He can do the impossible! Know and believe the Scriptures!
Walk with the Lord and pay your dues!!!
