This section deals with loving other believers. We should love them with:
1. Sincerity - "in truth" - genuine concern
2. Sacrifice - like Christ - giving up our rights
3. Service - "in deed" - taking action
When we demonstrate this kind of love it produces three results.
1. Assurance v.19,20 - The Holy Spirit is at work in us and as He "sheds abroad" the love of God in our hearts He bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.
2. Answered prayer v. 21,22 - By loving the brethren we are in the will of God and have the faith to boldly seek God in prayer according to His will.
3. Abiding v.23,24 - When a person trusts Christ he is in union with God. When a believer walks in love, he stays in close communion with God. This makes us fruitful for His glory.
Walk with the Lord and love the brethren!!!
