The arrival in Jerusalem ends Paul's third missionary journey. In this passage we see:
1. The Reception - Believers in Jerusalem were glad to see Paul and grateful for the relief offering he brought.
2. The Report - Paul told the mighty works God had done on his journey.
3. The Request - There were rumors of Paul not accepting Jewish believers. Paul was asked to participate in a vow of commitment to show these rumors were false.
4. The Response - Paul was willing and agreed to the request in order to show deference to others.
Deference is limiting my freedom so that I will not offend the tastes of others. This usually brings the respect of others. Paul gave up his individual rights and through deference loved the brethren. I must be willing to show deference toward others. Deference glorifies God and blesses others and will give me joy!
Walk with the Lord and show deference!!!
