Notice the many times in the book of Judges that the Israelites did evil in the sight of the Lord. Back in the 1960's a song came with the repetitive phrase, "Oh will they ever learn." This was true of Israel throughout the years and it is fast becoming true in modern America today. Why is man so slow to learn.
Next we are introduced to Manoah and his wife who were to become the parents of the man, Samson. The Angel of the LORD, who many of us suppose to be the pre-incarnate Christ, appeared to the wife of Manoah telling them that they were to have a son. Manoah's prayer was that the Angel would return and give more details about how to raise the child. Specific instructions are given about Samson who was to be a Nazarene totally dedicated to God. His diet and manner of life was to show out in this way. These verses end here but if we were to examine the rest of the story we would find out that despite the careful raising of Samson by his parents , he was careless with his life as a Nazarite and made foolish choices which eventually brought his life to an early end. What we need to do is examine the life of Samson and make sure we don't make some of the same mistakes.
