In the previous section we saw the determined surrender of Jesus to do God the Father's will. Now, as Judas comes with a large band of soldiers to betray Jesus, we see how this commitment impacts His response in a pressure situation. As we observe the people involved, there is a noticeable difference in behavior in the following areas:
1. Calmness - Notice the peace Jesus Christ maintains compared to the others in this setting. Judas has to have a huge band of soldiers because of his insecurity. The soldiers come with weapons to arrest an unarmed man. Peter wildly swings his sword as if he can defend Jesus by himself. In the midst of all this confusion, Jesus remains calm and at peace because He knows He is in the will of God. By surrendering to the will of God we find the peace of God that passes all understanding!
2. Courage - All of the disciples forsake the Lord Jesus and run in fear. Jesus faces the situation with courage. He is not afraid because He knows that He cannot be hurt or killed unless it is God's will. When we surrender to the will of God there is no fear of death and we can serve the Lord with great boldness.
3. Confidence - Judas puts his confidence in money. The soldiers trust their weapons. Peter depends on his own ability with a sword. Jesus' confidence is in the Father. We know that "all things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose"(Romans 8:28). When we are in the Lord's will, we have the confidence that all things will work out for good - even things we do not understand.
4. Compassion - Jesus Christ is able to have compassion - to think about others' needs above His own. When we are in the will of God, we know that God will take care of our needs and that allows us to think about others and show compassion.
Walk with the Lord and stay in the center of His will!!!
