Psalm 122:6 declares "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem". This prayer is a longing for a lasting kingdom of peace in Israel under the "Prince of peace", Messiah. Jesus Christ, the Messiah, was and is the answer to this prayer. In our passage today, we see Christ, at His first coming, offering Himself to Israel as her deliverer and King and the nation rejecting His offer.
Description - Jesus described sinful men and Israel as a nation - Like a whitewashed coffin, outside(clean,fresh) but inside(filthy, dead)
Denunciation - Jesus was the final message and opportunity from God for Israel to turn to Him but they would not.
Declaration - As a discipline, Israel will be set aside but only temporarily while Christ builds His Church.
We must be thankful and love the Jews for at least three things:
1. They set an example before the world of the relationship that God wants to have with all people
2. They wrote and preserved the Scriptures
3. They were the means of Christ coming into the human race
When we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, we are praying for the return of Jesus Christ and for the repentance of the nation to receive Him as Savior and Messiah!(Zechariah 12:10) Before this happens Jesus will come and rapture the Church, followed by an extreme, 7 year time of tribulation and discipline upon the Jews. Psalm 122:6 concludes "they shall prosper that love thee".
Walk with the Lord, love the Jews and pray for the peace of Jerusalem!!! (even so come Lord Jesus!)
