Matthew 27:15-32
Pilate has the opportunity once again of releasing an innocent man. It is the feast and tradition offers Pilate the obligation to release a "notorious" man. Could this be the Christ? Could Christ be released as a "murderer"? Pilate's wife suffers in a dream and realizes that this "Christ" is 'just' and must be released. Release Him and let him go. Pilate knows that this 'Christ' is just and innocent and that the whole conviction is because of "envy". Pilate washes his hands symbolically thinking that will release him conscientiously of judging this innocent man to death. "What can wash away my sin, nothing but the blood of Jesus". Finally the crowd wins. vs. 25 "His blood be on us, and on out children". That is where it has been and continues to be today. It is on me! It is on YOU! We are guilty. Only Christ can save us!
