Psalm 74 describes the destruction of Jerusalem during the Babylonian captivity. It seemed to the writer that God had forgotten about His people and that things were out of control. However, God is always in control! Even when we don't seem to understand what He is doing, God is faithfully executing His plan.
The men of Issachar were men who had an "understanding of the times" to know what Israel should do. (1 Chron. 12:32) Daniel understood God's plan of the Babylonian captivity by reading the prophet Jeremiah. (Daniel 9:2) We, also, can and should have an understanding of the times we are living in by reading the Word of God.
We understand that Jesus is coming again for the Church at the rapture and that world events are preparing for the rise of the anti-christ and tribulation period. We also know the reason Christ has delayed His coming. God desires that men repent and be saved!
How should an "understanding of the times" affect our lives?
1. Confidence - God is in control. Every part of His Word is true!
2. Carefulness - We must live holy lives that are pleasing to Christ and will be rewarded when He comes.
3. Compassion - We must have a burden for the lost people around us who are living in confusion and emptiness and facing eternal judgment in the lake of fire.
Walk with the Lord and understand the times!!!
