I Timothy 1:12-20

In these verses Paul's writing to Timothy is kind of looking ahead and looking back at the same time. He wrote in Philippians 3:13-14, "Forgetting those things that are behind, and reaching forth unto those things before, I press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." It is okay to look back as long as you don't look with longing to still be there. It can enhance the forward look in true repentance.
Notice in verse 15 that Paul is writing about the grace of God that saves sinners and Paul calls himself chief of sinners. He was a religious man and sometimes religious men are great sinners in a religious way. Religion can drive a man to kill. We see plenty of that in the world today. The first murder was like that in Genesis chapter 4. Paul calls his conversion in verse 16 God showing forth His longsuffering as an example to all who come to Christ.
I love verse 17 that says God is King eternal only wise God and He is worthy of glory forever. Am I giving Him that?
Timothy is to do a good warfare. Not with material weapons, but it is a fight of faith with a good conscience. Verses 19 & 20 speak of two men who did not hold up in the battle. The question is am I holding up in this battle? To not, Paul describes as suffering shipwreck. We must fight the good fight of faith where many are losing the battle.
