Zechariah 11:1-11

Israel just before the first coming of Christ could be called the flock of slaughter. There was a lot that happened between the time they were sent back by King Cyrus to build the Temple and the first coming of Christ. The Jews were devastated by the fact that the things that happened to them during the two remaining world empires seemed nothing but bad. There was persecution and one of the kings even offered a pig on the altar in the temple. Then along came one represented by "Beauty" or grace and Bands (unity) which is a representation of the Lord Jesus Christ. The three years of the ministry was beautiful. We see the blind received sight, the lame walked and if He would have been accepted a time of rich blessing for the nation. Notice when the staff "Beauty" was broken that the poor of the flock knew it was the word of the Lord. This ends our present verses, but I must call your attention to the next verses. This is a direct fulfillment of Judas going to the men who plotted the death of Jesus who offered thirty pieces of silver to betray Him. This was the going price of a slave in those days. After this Judas in remorse throws the money back and it is given to the potter for his field to bury strangers. Judas body (after his suicide) was the first to go and be buried in that field. You are either going to be saved by accepting Christ who died for you or pay a great price for your iniquity and sin.
