In this passage Jesus continued to show that men need a total rebirth by repentance(turning from their old way of thinking and acting) and faith(Forsaking All I Trust Him) turning to Jesus Christ. The Pharisees did not want to accept Jesus as the Christ, instead they wanted to trust their religious works and traditions. Even Jesus' family thought He had gone too far and they asked Him to stop and come with them. Jesus showed that His greatest commitment was not to His earthly family, even though He loved them greatly, but to His heavenly Father and to those who were committed to doing His will.
Is your greatest commitment in life to do the will of God? Remember God has told us seven things that we know are His specific will.
1. To be saved and share the message of salvation. 1 Timothy 2:3-5
2. To be sanctified - set apart with pure thoughts, words and actions. 1 Thessalonians 4:3
3. To be serving - serving the body of Christ in the Church. Romans 12:1,2
4. To be submissive - yielded to God and the authorities He puts in my life. 1Peter 2:13-15
5. To be willing to suffer - sacrificially yield my rights over to God. 1 Peter 3:15-17
6. To be Spirit-filled - under the control of the Holy Spirit and not the flesh. Ephesians 5:17,18
7. To be satisfied - to be thankful and grateful to God. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Like Jesus, each of us should make the greatest commitment of our life to do the will of God!
