Jesus Honors Marriage! - Matthew 19:1-15

How important is marriage? The Pharisees sought to trick Jesus by asking Him a question about marriage. They thought they could put Jesus between a rock and a hard spot by causing Him to disagree with Moses. However, Jesus showed that, as God, He was greater than Moses and gave the original intent for marriage. Jesus taught several important truths about marriage.

1.) God instituted marriage not man
2.) God intended one man and one women united for life
3.) The oneness between a man and a woman in marriage is like the oneness of the Godhead
4.) Moses allowed divorce because of "the hardness" of men's hearts but this was not God's plan
5.) God sees divorce, except for "fornication", as adultery

What should we learn and apply regarding marriage?

1.) Marriage is important to God - it should not be taken lightly but given high regard
2.) God instituted marriage and knows and has the right to instruct us with the best and right way for it to function - one man and one woman for life
3.) Find and choose a spouse Biblically and carefully
4.) Know that if God's intent is oneness for life that He will make provision for the tough times - God never commands something that He does not enable us to do
5.) Work at developing the oneness that God intended on purpose - this is a process that continues for a lifetime
6.) If you are frustrated or want to give up in marriage check the condition of your heart for "hardness"(selfishness) - Agape love is a decision of our will not a feeling
7.) Thank God for the person that God has given you in marriage - remember it is not either of you that is the problem in marriage but the sin in you - we must hate the sin and learn to deal with it but love the sinner!

Walk with the Lord and praise Him for the marvelous miracle of marriage!!
