The former verses in this chapter speak of a king who didn't remember Joseph and what God did through Joseph. This king began to fear the multiplication of the people of God. We have found similar things to be true in many countries in times past and it is certainly true in our world today. I find it very comfortable if the people of God multiply. I would like Heaven to be full of people who turn to Christ for salvation.
Pharaoh gives an order for the Hebrew midwives to kill every male baby born but allow the females to live.
In the next verses we find that the midwives feared God and would not kill any of the babies. Can't you see a contrasting parallel in our world today with the issue of abortion? Could it be that abortion providers do not fear God? Could it be anyone that approves of this practice has a problem , too and does not have the proper fear and respect for God?
The next thing we have in verse 20 & 21 is that God dealt well with the midwives and made their households strong. We can certainly see parallels to our society today.
Pharaoh, that godless man makes another decree to throw all the male babies in the river, leaving them to drown. We find in the next chapter a woman who would not obey that rule. Hebrews 11:23 calls her a woman of faith. I am sure there could be times when our faith is tested in some of these same ways. Will you stand the test when this time comes?
