In these first verses Moses and Aaron ask Pharaoh, "Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel let my people go that they may hold a feast unto Me in the wilderness." God has spoken. It is up to Pharaoh to accept or reject. Pharaoh chose to reject. His answer is: "Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice." He simply stated, "I know not the LORD." When the word LORD is used in black capitals it is "Jehovah, the Eternal Self Existent One" the God of the covenant with Israel.
Now over 400 years has passed since Joseph, by God's grace, was able to save Egypt and Israel from the famine. The Pharaoh of that time knew the LORD very well. Now, the perception of God seems to have changed. The people of God may have seemed cold and lifeless. The testimony of God may not have been seen in them for years. And there may have been a stubbornness on Pharaoh's part to see them as God's people.
I would like to make a parallel of the church of today. What do unsaved people see when they see us? Do they see a clear testimony that God is with us and we are with Him? What would draw them to our God? Would they want to come to Christ who is the Savior of the world? The above questions should be pondered by all Christians.
