This passage continues the discussion of "showing" the praises of God who has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. The main principle to "show" Christ in an ungodly world is meekness. Meekness is our strength under God's control. Meekness is yielding our rights to God. First, Peter shows what meekness looks like in our community where we "show" Christ as citizens and employees. Next, Peter shows what meekness looks like in the home where we live as wives and husbands. Finally, Peter discusses the area of the Church. We are to "show" Christ through:
Teamwork - Walk together in unity - 1 Peter 3:8-12
Testimony - Share a creative, credible and confident witness - 1 Peter 3:13-22
Triumph - Walk in victory over sin - 1 Peter 4:1-6
Treatment - Walk together in care - 1 Peter 4:7-11
God's Word tells us that, as Christians, our treatment toward others in the family of God should be so distinctive that it "shows" Christ to the unsaved around us. Treating the family right involves four areas:
1. Sobriety - Realizing time is short, take genuine interest in others - Pray - v.7
2. Charity - Go overboard to sacrificially love those affected by sin - Forgive - v.8
3. Hospitality - Give to take care of others practical needs - Share - v.9
4. Chemistry - Identify and develop your gifts to help the body of Christ - Serve - v.10,11
Walk with the Lord and treat the family right!!!
