This passage describes the second plague that God used to demonstrate His power in Egypt. Each plague was designed to challenge the false gods of Egypt.
1. Nile turned to blood - Hapi(also called Apis), the bull god, god of the Nile; Isis, goddess of
the Nile; Khnum, ram god, guardian of the Nile
2. Frogs - Heqet, goddess of birth, with a frog head
Through these plagues, Jehovah God demonstrated that He alone was the one, true, living God and that He is the ultimate authority in the universe worthy of obedience. Pharaoh, in his stubbornness, determined to spend one more night with the frogs and then still refused to obey after the frogs were returned to the river.
Many times, just like Pharaoh, we resist the will of God. We know what God wants us to do and we are feeling the pressures and consequences of our disobedience but we procrastinate or deviate from His plan. Like Pharaoh, blessing and relief await us just inside the door of obedience, but we refuse, content to live outside the will of God and spend one more night with the "frogs"!
We use this definition for obedience in our home: Obedience is doing what you are told, when you are told, without complaining. Are you living in obedience to God or are you procrastinating with something God has clearly shown you to do?
Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey!
Walk with the Lord and get rid of the "frogs"!!!
