Showing Christ in the Home! - 1 Peter 3:1-7

In chapter 3, Peter continues to share how we are to "show" Christ to the world. The outline of the book is:
I. Know - 1 Peter 1:18
II. Grow - 1 Peter 2:2
III. Show - 1 Peter 2:9

The challenge to "show" Christ, through meekness, begins in the community as citizens and employees. Today's passage presents the area of the home and "showing" Christ as wives and husbands. The main principle in "showing" Christ is meekness. Meekness is not weakness or passivity. Meekness is our strength under God's control. Meekness is yielding all rights to God and accepting what He directs and allows in life without arguing or complaining.

Wives - If you will honor your husbands with submission and respect you will show Christ. (1 Peter 3:1-6)
Husbands - If you will honor your wives in knowledge, kindness and oneness you will show Christ. (1 Peter 3:7)

Verse one and verse seven both begin with "Likewise". This refers back to the example of Christ's meekness. In the same way that Christ yielded His rights to a "righteous" Father, we are to yield our rights to God in the marriage relationship. This is the opposite of the world's philosophy of looking out for ourselves before others and standing up for our rights. The contrast is so great that it fulfills the challenge of chapter 2:9 - "show the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light"!

Walk with the Lord and SHOW Christ in your home!!!
