Know! - Grow! - Show! - 1 Peter 2:1-10

This passage gives the final two major points of the outline for 1 Peter. The outline is:
I. Know - 1:18,19
II. Grow - 2:2
III. Show - 2:9

The first priority for every person is to KNOW that you are saved! We can know this because we are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. We are secure in our salvation because we are not trusting our good works but Christ's finished work. Salvation is only the beginning. After we KNOW that we are saved we must GROW in Christ. This growth process takes place as we take in the Word of God. As we receive the Word we put off the characteristics and works of the flesh and put on the characteristics and works of the Spirit. This allows us to SHOW the praises of God who has saved us and called us out of darkness and into light. We are called a:

1. "chosen generation" - Only by God's grace are we given the opportunity to KNOW, GROW, and SHOW.
2. "royal priesthood" - This emphasizes that we are God's representatives and ambassadors representing Him and reaching out to a lost world with the message of Christ.
3. "holy nation" - As we represent Christ, we are to be distinctively pure and separated from the world and unto Christ.
4. "peculiar people" - We are called at this particular time and place in history to serve in this particular way.
