In this passage, David gives a challenge for service to the Lord. In verse 9, he gives the challenge of the condition of a true heart of service.
1. A Wise Heart - "know thou the God of thy father" - A true heart of service is first a heart that seeks to know God's heart. We must spend time with Him to know His purpose and ways of accomplishing His purpose.
2. A Whole Heart - "perfect heart" - A servant must be wholly devoted in loyalty to the one they are serving. To have any secret or selfish agenda apart from the master is not serving at all but selfishness.
3. A Willing Heart - "willing" - A true servant must purpose to follow any directive or make any sacrifice necessary to serve. An attitude of cooperation and commitment is essential in serving the Lord.
A heart of service begins with my walk with the Lord, learning His desires and delights. As I remove my desires and replace them with God's desires I will develop a "whole" heart of service and I will be ready and willing to carry out His will, in His way and for His glory.
Walk with the Lord and obey Him with a true heart of service!!!
