Do you remember learning a childhood song that went something like this:
Hallelu - Hallelu - Hallelu - Hallelujah - Praise ye the Lord! ?
I remember singing that song as a contest to see who could scream the loudest until we could barely talk. Somehow we thought that loudness = praise. Although I am sure that God loves enthusiasm, there is more to praise than just noise. Praise is acknowledging God for who He is - rehearsing to God and others His glorious qualities and attributes. In this passage, Solomon sets an example for praise.
1. God is a sovereign God - Humbly, Solomon knelt before God while the people watched him. Solomon then described God's greatness as "there is no God like thee in heaven nor in the earth". God is ruler over all! He is the supreme authority in all the universe and controls all things. We must bow down before God and submit to His plan for our lives.
2. God is a saving God - Solomon stated that God "keeps covenant" and "shews mercy". He is the one who initiates, provides for, and accomplishes salvation for us when we do not deserve His forgiveness but instead deserve the punishment of a burning hell. We must love God and serve Him the way He loved and served us.
3. God is a supplying God - Solomon looked ahead and recognized that God was the only source that could satisfy his every need. Solomon described God as having "open" eyes and ears that were ready to hear as he poured out his heart before Him. We must depend upon God by faith and thank Him for His provision.
Walk with the Lord and give Him praise!!!
