The kings of Judah had a history of some good and some bad in the eyes of God. Usually when a king turned to God the nation, at least to some degree, turned to Him, too. Hezekiah was one who turned toward Him and was a worshipper of God. We behold him in the beginning verse as offering a burnt offering on the altar. The burnt offering was the highest form of offerings of worship. Next we hear that all the congregation worshipped. The spirit of the king had permeated the people. Notice in verse 31 of our reading that Hezekiah is telling them that now that they have consecrated themselves, (something we need to do), they needed to bring sacrifices and thank offerings themselves. Then we are told of their free heart. We need a free heart. We see that the offerings were so great at that time that there were not enough priests to offer them.
In our time the burnt offering speaks of Christ offered on the altar of Calvary's cross. When we offer the worship of Christ it is somewhat like the burnt offering. Each of us like Hezekiah in Judah have what I would call a "sphere of influence". Part of mine would be the church the prisoners in the jails and prison family and friends, even unsaved. What is your appreciation of Christ the burnt offering first of all? Then what are you doing with your "sphere of influence"?
