Rehoboam forsook the law of God and did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord. The result was:
1. Division - The 10 northern tribes rebelled and split off to follow their own leader.
2. Discipline - God allowed Shishak, the king of Egypt to pillage and plunder Israel taking all the wealth that had been accumulated by David and Solomon.
3. Decay - Although God stopped Shishak from completely destroying Israel, they never regained the glory of the past.
We must remember that punishment always follows disobedience and that forgiveness always follows genuine repentance. It is best to prevent sin and to avoid the consequences that sometimes remain even after forgiveness.
Preventing Sin -
1. Consider and love Jesus - cross - Hebrews 12:3; coming - 1 John 3:2,3; crown - James 1:12
2. Meditate on Scripture - Ephesians 5:17, Psalm 119:11
3. Remove provision for the flesh - Romans 13:14
Walk with the Lord and take your ounce of prevention medicine!!!
