Our passage today is about God's requirement that Israel keep the last day of the week, Saturday as the Sabbath day. Sabbath means "to cease" and refers to a day when the children of Israel ceased from their normal work. The Sabbath day was to be "holy to the Lord" meaning it was to be used to worship God, study His Word and fellowship with His people. The purpose was to identify Israel with the one, true, living God - the Creator of the universe and to demonstrate their honor, trust and recognition of His authority.
We, as Christians, worship on Sunday, in honor of the resurrection of Christ on the first day of the week. Although Sunday is not a Christian Sabbath, it is for the same purpose of identification with Christ and our honor, trust and recognition of his authority over our lives.
Hebrews 11:25 says, "Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together as the manner of some is but exhort one another daily and so much the more as ye see the day approaching". May my practice on the Lord's day reflect my love for the Lord Jesus Christ and my devotion to His Lordship!
Walk with the Lord and honor Him as Lord!!!
