When I think of what Jesus said about offending little ones and what the declared punishment was it could send chills up my spine when I think of all offense and abuse of children in the world today. However, Jesus could also mean the offense or cause of stumbling of a new believer in Christ. This I must consider as a so called Pastor may not in any way be an offense to someone who is young in the faith.
The next words of Christ speaks of how radical we need to be. My hand, foot, eye and ear are always controlled by the brain and further by the heart. It is there we cut off the offending member.
Jesus also speaks of Hell as something by all means we must avoid. We are eternal beings either set for Heaven by having Christ as Savior, or Hell by rejecting (see John 3:18, 36) Him. Heaven is a wonderful place while Hell is the most terrible place there is.
The last thing is that we are to have salt in ourselves, and Jesus defines this as having peace with one another. Nobody likes a Christian who is continually fighting with someone. We lose all seasoning that way, and we end up being good for no one. A Christian walking in peace adds flavor to this sin cursed world.
