In this passage, Jesus triumphantly rides into the city of Jerusalem and presents Himself as king.
1. The prophecy of the entry - Jesus makes a prophecy to His disciples concerning the colt of a donkey that he will ride into the city. He predicts what they will find, when, where and how they will find it and how the owner will respond. All of these things take place exactly as Jesus said they would. Daniel, also, prophesied this event to the very day of its occurrence in the "70 weeks" prophecy of Daniel 9. This fulfillment of prophecy proves triumphantly that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and King of kings!
2. The peace of the entry - Jesus came into the city riding a "new" (unbroken) colt of a donkey. This act was very symbolic. That this unbroken animal submits to Jesus demonstrates that all of creation will one day be subject to Him. Also, a ruler riding in on a donkey shows that he is coming in humility and peace. Jesus Christ came the first time as a servant to bring peace. The next time Jesus rides into Jerusalem it will be on a white horse as King to bring judgment. The peace of the entry makes it triumphant because as a humble servant Jesus Christ went to the cross defeated satan and made possible peace with God and the peace of God for all mankind!
3. The proclamation of the entry - As Jesus rode into the city, people shouted and acknowledged Jesus Christ as the "Son of David" the Messiah and called for Him to save them and set up the promised kingdom. The proclamation makes this entry triumphant because all who will acknowledge Jesus Christ by faith will be saved from their sin and one day rule and reign with Him in His kingdom!
