Everything we have in these verses speaks of the Jews going back to Jerusalem to build the Temple of God that Solomon originally built. It was a rather small number of people compared to the two million that came out of Egypt.
I am sure that some may have chosen not to go back, and some may have considered the hardship too much for them and decided to stay right where they were. It takes a certain spiritual fortitude to be in a group like this. Trust in God, and what He can do was the answer.
Have you ever wondered why God so meticulously gave the numbers of the goods even the animals. When they got to the place where the house of the Lord previously was they offered freely materials for the rebuilding of the Temple.
In verse 69 the phrase "they gave after their ability" is mentioned. God never asks for more than we are able to do. But are we able to do more than we are? I will end this with that question.
