Fear the Lord or Follow Folly! - Proverbs 9:10-18

We must choose to either "fear the Lord" or follow the foolish way of folly. The way of folly is described in these verses as:
1. Desperate - The way of folly is man's desperate attempt to satisfy his sinful flesh and find satisfaction and fulfillment in life.
2. Deceitful - Folly offers to fulfill man's need through "stolen" and "secret" things. Folly promises that by these illicit means man will experience true, lasting fulfillment.
3. Destructive - The true end of following the way of folly is death and hell.

To "fear the Lord" means to hold God in such high esteem that we desire to please Him in every aspect of our lives. We "fear" the Lord at different levels and for different reasons.
1. Awe - Because of God's place of authority, we acknowledge His right to set the standard for our lives and please(fear) Him out of responsibility or duty.
2. Admiration - Because of God's glory, we admire His character and see the benefit of following His superior ways and please(fear) Him out of privilege and desire
3. Adoration - Because of God's love shown at Calvary, we are drawn by His affection to love Him and please(fear) Him out of gratitude and delight.
4. Anticipation - Because of God's promise, we look forward to God's commendation and reward and seek to please(fear) Him out of surrender and devotion.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom", this means that when we fear God we begin to see life from God's perspective and live life according to His truth. A disregard for God and His ways brings disaster both now and forever!

Walk with the Lord and "fear" Him alone!!!
