I Chronicles 11:10-19

In these verses we have a list of some of David's mighty men. If you remember David killed the giant Goliath and King Saul made him the captain of the Army. This worked well until David was so successful and victorious in battle that the women began to sing, "Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands." After that David was reduced to becoming a sort of fugitive with Saul trying to kill him every chance he got. These men became fugitives too, but David was anointed king by Samuel the Prophet before this time. Now Saul was dead and it is these men who had fought alongside him that were to help coronate him as king. I look at David as typical of Christ and these men were now going to be part of his reigning party. By the way we have followed Christ through His time of rejection and we will reign with Him after His future coronation as rightful King. We will reign not only over Israel, but over the whole world.

The next listing we have is some of the daring feats of these mighty men. They were great men, as I want to be for Christ. The last one involved three mighty men who when David longed for a drink from the well at the gate of Bethlehem, broke though enemy lines to get just one drink of water for him. David would not drink it but poured it out as a drink offering before the Lord.

Is my loyalty to Christ like that of these three mighty men? I must always check myself on this.

David values the lives of his men so much that he will not drink the water they have smuggled back from behind enemy lines....This shows great humility as he pours out the water as an offering to God. He passes their sacrifice to the One he knows is more worthy.
Whatever we do for others in the name of Christ is never wasted or lost. It is as we have done it for Jesus....Matt.25:40
"I tell you the truth whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
