The book of James discusses marks of spiritual maturity.
Chapter 1 - Patience in Trials
Chapter 2 - Practice of Truth
Chapter 3 - Power over the Tongue
In chapter 3, James paints several pictures of the tongue and the power that it has. To be spiritually mature we must gain control of our tongue. The tongue has power in many areas.
1. Power to direct v.1-4 - like a bit and a rudder
2. Power to destroy v.5-8 - like a fire and an animal
3. Power to delight v. 8-12 - like a fountain and a tree
How can we control our tongue?
1. We must get a new master, Jesus Christ, in our life through salvation
2. We must learn the new ways of our master - Jesus Christ, through His Word
3. We must yield to our new master, Jesus Christ, by allowing His Spirit that dwells in us to control our lives.
Walk with the Lord and tame your tongue by His power!!!
