Proverbs is God's wisdom for everyday living! In chapter 7, God sends a third warning and instruction to "keep" God's commands in our heart in order to walk in moral purity. The word "keep" means to guard, protect, value and maintain. We all know the difference between a well kept garden and one that is not or the difference between a well maintained home or car and one that is abused or neglected. We are to maintain, value and guard God's Word as "the apple of thine eye". This refers to the center or pupil of the eye and was considered the most valuable and most sensitive parts of the body. So important and so sensitive that just a little speck in the eye can totally disrupt the whole function of the body! If we do not "keep" God's Word we will end up keeping the "flattering" words of the evil woman. "Flattery" means deceitful, manipulative words that we like to hear or that we wish were true about ourselves. Flattering words are "smooth" and "easy to swallow" but afterward become bitter and painful. (Proverbs 2:16, 5:3, 6:24, 7:5,21) These seductive words lead us to:
1. Wrong Values v.7 - "void of understanding"
2. Wrong Place v.8 - "her corner, her house"
3. Wrong Time v.9 - "in the black and dark night"
and eventually
4. Wrong Decision v. 22 - "he goeth after her straightway as an ox goeth to the slaughter..."
Walk with the Lord and "keep" His Word in wisdom and purity!!!
